• New KIA Sorento wins Carbuyer’s overall ‘Car of the Year’ for 2021
  • Also claims ‘Best Large Family Car’ at the awards
  • Follows on from the previous success of the e-Niro, Picanto and cee’d
(FRANKFURT, Germany) 26 November 2020 – The new KIA Sorento has topped the tables in Carbuyer’s tenth annual Best Car Awards, picking up accolades for both ‘Best Large Family Car’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’. KIA’s flagship SUV follows in the successful footsteps of the e-Niro, Picanto and cee’d, all of which have collected honours at the Carbuyer Best Car Awards in previous years.

The Carbuyer Best Car Awards were live-streamed simultaneously on Wednesday, 25 November 2020 on the Carbuyer website and YouTube channel, which boasts over half a million subscribers. The awards ran through 19 different categories, crowning a winner for each, before finally bestowing the award of overall ‘Car of the Year’ on the fourth-generation KIA Sorento, judged by the entire editorial team at Carbuyer.

Paul Philpott, President, and CEO of KIA Motors (UK) Limited commented: “For the Sorento to win this award is an outstanding achievement and one which fills our UK team and dealer partners with pride and encouragement. This vehicle embodies just how far we have come as a brand since entering the UK market nearly 30 years ago, offering high quality, efficient, and desirable products to a growing customer base. The Sorento winning this award is high praise indeed and credit that’s been duly earned.”

Richard Ingram, editor of Carbuyer.co.uk, said: “Our Best Large Family Car and our overall Car of the Year for 2021 has been awarded to what we consider the consummate all-rounder.

"The KIA Sorento is a versatile SUV that’s nipping at the heels of premium rivals, feeling luxurious and spacious in equal measure. Competition in this area of the market is fierce, but no other model comes close to the far-reaching talents of the fantastic Sorento. Congratulations to KIA on a well-deserved win.” (JOHANNESBURG) 17 November 2020 – KIA Motors South Africa, a subsidiary of Motus Corporation, this year continued its support of Johannesburg-based RADA through the donation of a KIA K2700 during the national Covid-19 lockdown, as well as a cash donation of R100 000. KIA has also pledged an additional R70 000 for the upcoming financial year.

RADA – an acronym for rape, alcohol, drug, abuse – is a registered Non-Profit Organisation, and takes positive, meaningful, and effective action to combat these addictions and atrocities in order for the world to come to a better, healthier, and safer place in which all can prosper.

“We have supported RADA for nearly five years now, and from the beginning, this initiative just resonated with us,” comments Gary Scott, CEO, KIA Motors South Africa. “The fact that RADA has such widespread community support is testament to the amazing work they’re doing. As the organization has grown, so has the support from KIA. We admire the work they’re doing and try to support in as many ways as we can.”

Most recently, KIA partnered with RADA and Tiger Canyon on a trip to Philippolis in the Free State in support of the RADA MiPad project, aimed at empowering women and, more specifically, girls who so often stay at home when they are menstruating because they do not have access to, or in many cases, the means to buy sanitary wear. With RADA MiPad, which has a life span of up to five years, RADA hopes to enable girls to attend their classes and complete their schooling with dignity.

“We are longstanding supporters of RADA and we are proud to be part of this new project. We were happy to provide vehicles for the very long road trip which was an eye-opening experience for us all,” says Christo Valentyn, GM: Marketing. “It was fantastic to see the impact RADA is having on the lives of so many girls, and the greater communities they serve. It remains an honour to support RADA.”
